Drawing

Childlike drawing of a crying chicken, with redness on their underside, on a white background.

Through a child’s eyes, chickens are free to roam, run, and play in open, green fields.

But the shocking reality hidden in factory farms is about as far from that as you can get.

Chickens are grown so rapidly their legs often can’t support their unnatural, heavy bodies, causing chronic pain and significant suffering.

This harsh reality is deliberately hidden from view, but it doesn’t have to stay that way.

We have the power to rewrite this story and give chickens a better life.

Help chickens now

Add your name here to show food businesses and the chicken industry that we want them to keep up with progress for animal welfare.

Many white-feathered chickens crowded together, sitting on dirty litter on the floor of a shed. The bird closest to the camera has very dirty feathers; bare, red skin around their bottom, and they have their head bowed down and eyes closed. They look sick.

Behind closed doors, hidden from your view, is an animal welfare emergency. Every year, 120 million chickens bred for meat are raised and slaughtered in New Zealand. Most of these birds lead short, miserable lives.

Food companies have the power to end this needless suffering - and around the world over 600 have already committed to doing better for chickens.

We’ve already seen consumer pressure for better chicken welfare standards work – with eggs. Now, most eggs sold in New Zealand are cage-free. This happened because supermarkets and other leading food businesses have all committed to stop selling cage eggs. Battery cages have also been banned. This only happened because people like you took action and demanded better!

Together, we can create the same positive change for chickens raised for meat!
