Ask party leaders to ban octopus factory farming

Octopuses are sentient wonders, with intelligence that rivals ours. They live solitary, complex lives. Despite this, research is taking place at Auckland University into how to confine these solitary, sensitive beings in barren tanks and subject them to conditions where suffering is inevitable. Farming octopuses is not just cruel, it is environmentally unsustainable and a bad investment.

New Zealand can act before this industry takes hold. Washington State and California have banned octopus farming, and Mexico and Chile have introduced legislation to prevent it.

With the general election on November 7, your voice is urgently needed. Email party leaders who have not shared their position on octopus farming, urging them to commit to a ban on octopus factory farming. (The Green Party, Labour Party and Animal Justice Party have already pledged their support for a ban on octopus factory farming).
